Ex-road racer and time triallist becomes, after a lay off of more than 20 years, a born-again biker, this time on a mountain bike. Getting to grips with a Marin East Peak that sports full suspension and hydraulic disk brakes, and controlling this thoroughbred MTB on a ride through the steeply pitched English Chilterns, negotiating gates and over roots is an experience not bargained for, in more ways than one.
