Most business web sites are about to die
The vast majority of business web sites are in the dark ages of the Internet. They are using 1990s technology, with 1890s attitudes to business. The trouble is that many of the world's Internet users were not born when the technology behind most web sites was invented. And even if they were alive, they were toddlers.
The world has moved on, yet most business web sites have remained rooted in the old world. Anyone under the age of around 25 only knows things like instant messaging, social networking and other online methods of communication. In the USA most people under the age of 25 watch TV on a laptop computer rather than a TV set. This means they can chat to their friends about the TV programme they are watching, while they are all watching it.
As Internet usage grows, so does the expectation for interactivity, multimedia and the ability to contribute. Can other people contribute to your web site? If not, they will go away. Does your web site include video? If not, you will lose users. Does your web site include a range of interactive methods? If not, you will be viewed as a dinosaur.
No longer can web sites use old-fashioned methods of producing an online brochure. The Internet is a different place and as young people enter the world of work, they only know the new Internet. Anything that is using technology dating back to 2005 is just old-hat.
Web sites that are not interactive, fail to include video and which don't allow your users to contribute are on their deathbeds.

Well said It's easier than
Well said
It's easier than ever to create interactive sites. Video hosting and interactive apps are either free or very cheap and the production technology is so cheap.
The only excuse is lack of imagination IMHO
"This means they can chat to
"This means they can chat to their friends about the TV programme they are watching, while they are all watching it."
Not just in the US Graham!
Roger reports his granddaughters do likewise...
And not just kids either - that's what I do too... No2 son was over the other weekend and we both had laptops out with TV on - just because I could I sent him an MSN message to go and make some coffee...I'm still waiting!
Cheers
